Woman goes missing after falling into manhole in Tongi

A woman has gone missing after falling into an uncovered manhole on the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway in Tongi's Hossain Market area of Gazipur last night (27 July).
Rescue efforts by the Fire Service are ongoing. As of 1pm today (28 July), she had not been found.
The missing woman has been identified as Tasnim Siddique Jyoti, originally from Chuadanga. She lived in Mirpur, Dhaka, and worked for a pharmaceutical company.
According to police and local residents, the incident occurred around 9:15pm when Tasnim was walking along the footpath beside the highway and accidentally fell into an uncovered manhole managed by Gazipur City Corporation.

Locals tried to rescue her but were unsuccessful. Tongi Fire Service was later informed, and a rescue unit was dispatched to the scene.
Md Shahin Alam, senior officer at Tongi Fire Service, said, "Upon receiving the news, our rescue team has been searching inside the manhole for over an hour. The manhole is about ten feet deep and filled with water due to continuous rain."
Tongi West Police Station Officer-in-Charge Iskandar Habibullah Rahman said, "We came to the location after receiving information that a woman had fallen into a manhole. Fire Service personnel are trying to rescue her."
