Interim government Adviser Asif Mahmud Sajeeb Bhuiyan warned the government officials in Chattogram that he is prepared to dismantle the existing system and appoint new people.

"We will break the system if necessary. We will bring in new appointments and place new people in these positions," he said during a meeting with officials from various departments of the Chattogram division today (19 October).

During the meeting, Asif questioned their role in controlling the rise in commodity prices.

The adviser to the Ministry of Labour and Employment and the Ministry of Youth and Sports expressed frustration over the lack of goodwill in the task force responsible for monitoring markets and the consumer rights directorate.

He also said there are non-cooperation with the government.

"I have no information on how many operations you conducted under the task force or consumer rights directorate or how much work you have done. The commerce secretary sent me a report on a three-day task force, and Chattogram was mentioned only for one day in it, with no mention of you on the other two days," Asif told the government officials.

"The task force operated in 40-45 districts. But there were no operations for two out of three days in Chattogram. I think there is a lack of goodwill on your part or some non-cooperation with the government," he added.

Expressing his frustration with government officials, Asif said, "There is still stagnation due to your non-cooperation. This was discussed in our last cabinet meeting last Thursday [17 October]. We may have to make some tough decisions."

"A revolution has taken place here. Many of you still do not understand this. After a revolution, nothing functions structurally as before. We have maintained the system still, and we expect your cooperation to continue maintaining it," he added.
