We want to play role in ballot revolution: Nasiruddin Patwary
Just as bullets were overcome during the July uprising, the Jatiya Nagorik Committee wants to play a role in a ballot revolution in the country, said Nasiruddin Patwary, convener of the Jatiya Nagorik Committee.
Speaking at a views-exchange meeting with retired members of the armed forces in Dhaka yesterday (22 February), Patwary said their new party will be formed within this month to stop those who want to destabilise the country.
"Money and power will not be factors in the voting system like before. A new government will be formed through fair elections and the new government will formulate a new constitution. The new party of students and the public will take a stand against those who obstruct the process," Patwari said.
Also speaking on the occasion, Sarjis Alam, chief organiser of the Jatiya Nagorik Committee, said, "If retired brothers [of armed forces] stand by us, Bangladesh will become an impregnable fortress against fascism. For this, you have to join politics.
"You are well respected in villages and towns. You will spread the new style of politics and we will build a new Bangladesh in unity with you. If you are worthy, posts will be reserved for you."
