Hasina hindered women's leadership in name of reserved seats: Samantha Sharmin
The parliamentary election must be held first, and the constitution must be rewritten, she says

Ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina has used many tactics to keep women behind in the name of women's leadership, Samantha Sharmin, spokesperson of the Jatiya Nagorik Committee (JANAC) said today (20 February).
"She [Hasina] has hindered the development of women's leadership in the name of reserved seats. She has used women to serve party interests," she said at a women's gathering at the Ali Ahammad Chunka City Library and Auditorium in Dhaka's Narayanganj.
"We demand that both the Awami League and Sheikh Hasina be held accountable through a trial and that she be brought back to the country to face punishment," she added.
Mentioning that there is not enough presence of women in the advisory council, Samantha said, "We have to figure out how to involve women in this sector."
Regarding the national elections, she stated that after three "unlawful elections", there cannot be another disputed one.
"The parliamentary election must be held first, and the constitution must be rewritten."
About campus politics, the JANAC spokesperson said new politics is developing on campuses.
"We want women to be involved in decision-making roles on campuses. Likewise, they will have representation in leadership positions within the emerging political parties."
Nusrat Tabassum, central executive member of the Student Against Discrimination, also spoke as a special guest.
