Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia's Gulshan residence "Feroza" is abuzz with massive crowds as party leaders, activists and enthusiastic people gathered there to welcome their beloved leader and just to get a glance of her.

The democracy champion returned home from United Kingdom (UK) after four months of medical treatment this morning.

The entire area of her residence is being shaken up with reverberating slogans and a festive atmosphere is prevailing there.

Leaders and activists of BNP and its affiliated bodies have come from different parts of the country with party and national flags.

Many are holding banners with pictures of BNP founder Ziaur Rahman, BNP chief Khaleda Zia, acting chairman Tarique Rahman and holding festoons in their hands and raising slogans on the main road in front of Khaleda Zia's residence.

Members of the law enforcement agencies are on alert in front of the residence. BNP volunteer teams are also performing their duties.

The pro-democracy leader reached Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport around 10:42am by a special air ambulance provided by Qatar's Emir.

Khaleda Zia's two daughters-in-law Dr Zubaida Rahman and Syeda Sharmila Rahman accompanied her.

Earlier, she departed from Heathrow Airport in London for Dhaka around 4:15pm (London time), BNP sources said.

Party Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir led senior leaders to welcome her at the airport with flower bouquet.

Earlier on Monday, her son and party's Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman drove her to the London airport at about 2:10pm (London time), her personal physician Prof AZM Zahid Hossain said.

Khaleda Zia had been to London for treatment on 7 January.
