Voter list being updated in 3 phases; final one before polls schedule: EC secretary
For the first time, the Election Commission (EC) will publish three separate voter lists ahead of the national elections, with the final one to be released just before the announcement of the polls schedule, Election Commission Senior Secretary Md Akhtar Ahmed said today (29 July).
"We published the first list on 2 March as per usual procedures. The second list — updating excluded names and including those who turn 18 by 1 January 2025 — will be released next week," he told reporters at the Nirbachan Bhaban in capital's Agargaon.
He added, "A third and final list will be published ahead of the election schedule, based on the revised voter list law. However, its timing will depend on when the schedule is announced."
The latest amendment to the Voters' List Act 2009, now reissued as the Voters' List Ordinance 2025, allows the EC to update and publish the voter roll at any point before the polls schedule instead of the fixed date of 2 March.
The ordinance was gazetted by the Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs on 24 July.
