US doesn't support any party, expects fair polls in Bangladesh: Jacobson
“I want to be very clear about the US government’s position,” she said.

The United States does not support any particular political party, politician, or polls outcome in Bangladesh but it expects a fair election in February next year, US Embassy in Dhaka Charge d'Affaires Tracey Ann Jacobson said today (1 September).
"We hope the election will take place in an atmosphere of peace and security and will lead to a successful democratic government that represents the aspirations and dreams of the Bangladeshi people," Jacobson told reporters after meeting Chief Election Commissioner AMM Nasir Uddin at the EC head office in Dhaka's Agargaon.
"I am here with some of my colleagues to listen, to learn, and to understand," she said.

Jacobson said the United States supports the interim government led by Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus as well as the Election Commission (EC).
"I want to be very clear about the US government's position. Since there are so many rumours and conspiracy theories out there, I thought I would just make a statement today to thank the Election Commission for its hospitality," she said
She added, "We support the interim government led by Professor Yunus and the Election Commission in charting a pathway to free and fair elections early next year."
In response to a journalist's question, CEC Nasir said, "They wanted to know about our preparation for the election. I said we are taking full preparations to hold parliamentary elections so that we are not blamed for not holding the elections."
