Union Parishad admin officers threaten work stoppage, demand 10th grade status and ministry-paid salaries
Administrative officers working in various Union Parishads across the country have threatened work stoppages and continuous protest programmes to press home their demands for being placed under the 10th grade, promotion, and receiving salaries and allowances directly from the ministry.
On Saturday (29 November), at a press conference held at the Bangladesh Crime Reporters Association (CRAB) conference room in Segunbagicha, Dhaka, the Bangladesh Union Parishad Administrative Officers Association presented these demands.
The written statement was presented by the association's central committee President Md Abdullah Al Momin and the event was conducted by the association's Office Secretary Gias Uddin.
Gias Uddin told The Business Standard, "There are about 4,300 administrative officers working in Union Parishads across the country. Despite raising these demands over the past five years, the government has taken no steps to meet them."
According to a press release issued by the association, memorandums will be submitted to all district commissioners on 4 December, all divisional commissioners on 8 December, and relevant advisors on 17 December.
If no steps are taken to address their demands, the officers said a nationwide work stoppage will be observed on 23 and 24 December, accompanied by a sit-in programme in front of district commissioner offices.
After that, a grand rally will be held at the Central Shaheed Minar on 7 January, where continuous protest programmes will be announced, according to the release.
