UN chief greets Hasina on International Day of UN Peacekeepers
Bangladesh has been contributing to the UN Peacekeeping Operations for more than three decades now
The Secretary-General of the United Nations António Guterres greeted the Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on the International Day of UN Peacekeepers.
"The UN secretary-general phoned the prime minister tonight and extended heartfelt greetings to her (Sheikh Hasina) marking the International Day of UN Peacekeepers," PM's Press Secretary Ihsanul Karim told media.
The day was observed today in Bangladesh as elsewhere of the globe in a befitting manner.

The theme of this year's day was – "Women in Peacekeeping – highlights their central role in our operations".
Bangladesh has been contributing to the UN Peacekeeping Operations for more than three decades now.
There are currently 6,543 Bangladeshi UN Peacekeepers deployed in 9 several missions. Among them, 1,061 Peacekeepers are working in MINUSCA, which started its operation on April 10, 2014.
In November last year, the Bangladesh Police has received the Best Police Unit Award for its contribution to the United Nations peacekeeping operations.
The Bangladesh Formed Police Unit (FPU) Rotation 11 was awarded for providing security to the Nyala Super Camp in South Darfur in Sudan and its commendable work on capacity building of Sudan's police.
