Two sisters, both minors, have drowned in a canal in Brahmanbaria's Nasirnagar upazila.
They have been identified as Maria, 11, and Samia, 9.
Police recovered the two bodies from the Sangstar Canal in Gokarna village of the upazila this morning (31 May). The deceased were children of Minar Ali from the village.
"Maria and Samia went to bring cattle while crossing the Sangstar Canal yesterday afternoon (30 May). Due to two days of continuous rain, the water level in the canal had risen and created a strong current," said Md Khairul Alam, officer-in-charge (OC) of Nasirnagar Police Station, quoting relatives of the deceased.
"While trying to cross the canal, the two sisters were swept away by the current. They could not be found since then. The bodies of the two sisters floated up in the canal this morning," he added.
Khairul said police went and recovered the bodies upon receiving the news.
