Lawyer loses eyesight after stone hurled at train in Brahmanbaria

An income tax lawyer lost sight in one eye after being struck by a stone allegedly thrown at a moving train by miscreants in Brahmanbaria's Ashuganj yesterday (23 June).
The victim, Shyamal Chandra Das, 45, sustained the injury while travelling on the Chattogram-bound Turna Express. Despite undergoing surgery, doctors were unable to save his right eye.
Md Shah Alam, in-charge of the Brahmanbaria Railway Station Police Outpost, said he had heard about the incident involving a passenger being injured by stones thrown at a train.
However, no formal complaint had been lodged with the outpost as of today, he added.
According to family members, Shyamal had travelled to Dhaka on 22 June for personal work and was returning home that night by train. At around 1:30am, as the train was passing through the Talshahar Railway Station area in Ashuganj, miscreants allegedly hurled stones at the train from outside.

He was taken to Brahmanbaria Railway Station and then to the district Sadar Hospital, where doctors referred him to the National Institute of Ophthalmology and Hospital in Dhaka.
Doctors carried out a lengthy surgery yesterday, but were ultimately unable to save his eyesight in the injured eye.
