Osmani Hospital warns doctors over late arrivals, early exits
A review of biometric data found 48% of outpatient doctors and 65% of inpatient doctors arrived after 9am, while 96% and 90%, respectively, left before 2:30pm.
Most doctors at Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital do not report to work on time, while a large majority leave before the scheduled end of their shifts, depriving patients of timely medical services.
The issue has been observed in both the hospital's inpatient and outpatient departments and has prompted repeated complaints from patients.
The hospital's director, Brig Gen Umar Rashed Munir, issued a notice on Tuesday highlighting late arrivals and early departures recorded in doctors' biometric attendance data over the last three months.

While doctors are required to report at 8am, biometric data showed that 48% of outpatient doctors and 65% of inpatient doctors arrived after 9am – more than an hour after the scheduled start of their working day.
Early departures were even more widespread, with 96% of outpatient doctors and 90% of inpatient doctors leaving before 2:30pm, according to the data.
The hospital authorities said adherence to working hours was essential for ensuring uninterrupted patient care, administrative discipline and accountability.
The notice instructed all doctors to report at 8am, record their attendance through the biometric system and not leave before 2:30pm.
It said the notice was being issued as an initial warning. Repeated violations would result in action under the Government Servants (Regular Attendance) Rules, 2019.
Attempts to contact Brig Gen Umar Rashed Munir by phone yesterday (2 September) for comment were unsuccessful.
