Two RMG workers killed after leguna falls into open drain in Savar

Two garment workers were killed when a passenger-filled leguna overturned and fell into an open drain on the side of a road in Ashulia of Dhaka today (16 April).
Several others were also injured in the accident, said locals and police, adding that they have been rescued and admitted to various local hospitals for treatment.
The accident occurred on the Bypail-Abdullapur road in Jamgarh area of Ashulia in the evening, Ashulia Police Station Inspector (Investigation) Md Kamal Hossain told The Business Standard.
"The leguna was heading towards Bypail with passengers in the evening, when it fell into a large open drain on the side of the road in front of Fantasy Kingdom. Two people were killed in the incident, and several others were injured. We are at the scene," said Kamal Hossain.
The deceased were identified as Badiul Alam Gazi, 35, and Hridoy Mia, 35.
Badiul reportedly worked at a ready-made garment (RMG) factory of the Envoy Group and Hridoy worked at Unimas Sportswear Limited.
Md Parvez, duty manager of Ashulia Women and Children Hospital, said, "Badiul Alam and Hridoy Mia were brought to our hospital around 7:30pm. Later, the on-duty doctors on duty declared them dead."
"Three others injured in the accident are undergoing treatment at our hospital. They are Bilkis, 32, Subrata Pal, 33, and Nurul Islam," he added.
The police recovered the bodies of the deceased, and members of the police and fire service inspected the scene after being informed of the incident.
