Three killed in Ramu road crash
Two sisters were among three people killed and two others injured after a covered van collided head-on with an auto-rickshaw in Ramu, Cox's Bazar, this afternoon.
Three people, including two sisters, were killed and two others injured in a head-on collision between a covered van and an auto-rickshaw in Ramu upazila of Cox's Bazar this afternoon (27 July).
The accident occurred at around 2:45pm in the Moddho Khuniapalong area of Khuniapalong Union on the Shaheed ATM Jafar Alam Arakan Road (Cox's Bazar-Teknaf Highway), confirmed Sukanta Chakrabarty, inspector of Ramu Highway Crossing Police Station.
The deceased were identified as Shahnaz Begum, 40, and Rubin Begum, 42, daughters of Jafar Alam from the Harinmara area of Rajapalong Union in Ukhiya. The identity of the third deceased, a male passenger, could not be confirmed immediately, said the inspector.

According to locals, the Cox's Bazar-bound covered van collided head-on with the auto-rickshaw travelling in the opposite direction, leaving the three-wheeler badly mangled.
Two passengers died on the spot, while three others, including the auto-rickshaw driver, were injured. They were taken to Cox's Bazar 250 Bed District Sadar Hospital, where one of the injured later died while undergoing treatment.
The driver and helper of the covered van fled the scene. Police have seized both vehicles involved in the accident.
The bodies have been kept at the morgue of Cox's Bazar District Sadar Hospital. Legal action is underway, police said.
