Bagerhat family planning officer suspended after minister finds irregularities during hospital visit
The officer will receive a subsistence allowance in accordance with the applicable rules during the suspension period.
The health ministry has temporarily suspended Dr Kamal Hossain Mufti, upazila health and family planning officer (UHFPO) of Morrelganj in Bagerhat, over allegations of irregularities, corruption and mismanagement at the Upazila Health Complex.
The decision was announced in a notification issued yesterday (26 July) by the Discipline-2 Branch of the Health Services Division.
According to the notification, the health minister visited the Bagerhat, Morelganj Upazila Health Complex on 25 July, where he found multiple instances of alleged irregularities, corruption and poor management.
The inspection also reportedly uncovered abandoned hospital buildings and expired medicines stored even inside toilets, the notification said, adding that such incidents were tarnishing the reputation of public healthcare services.
In view of the seriousness of the allegations and the possibility of influencing the investigation, Dr Mufti has been suspended with effect from the date of the notification under Section 39(1) of the Government Service Act, 2018.
The notification said he will receive a subsistence allowance in accordance with the applicable rules during the suspension period.
