Two killed in clash between rival groups in Cox's Bazar
Two men were killed and another injured in a clash between two rival groups following a clash in the Pahartali area of Cox's Bazar.
The incident took place at around 12:30am yesterday (2 June) in the Islampur area of Pahartali under Cox's Bazar municipality, confirmed Cox's Bazar Sadar Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Sheikh Mohammad Ali.
Among the victims, Hridoy, 28, was declared dead after being taken to hospital that night. He was the son of Sirajul Islam of South Medha Kachapia area under Khutakhali union in Chakaria upazila.
Two other injured persons were referred to Chattogram Medical College Hospital for treatment. One of them, Asif, 27, died there this morning (3 June).
Asif was a resident of Babuler Ghona in the Islampur area of Cox's Bazar municipality.
Another injured youth, Ashraful Islam, a resident of the area adjacent to the Islampur Mosque in Pahartali, is still undergoing treatment at Chattogram Medical College Hospital.
Quoting local residents, OC Sheikh Mohammad Ali said an argument broke out between the two groups over a previous dispute, which later escalated into a clash.
He said police had visited the scene after receiving information about the incident and were working to identify those involved.
Legal proceedings are underway in connection with the incident, he said, adding that police are conducting drives to determine the exact cause of the clash and arrest those responsible.
One of the bodies has been kept at the district sadar hospital morgue for post-mortem examination, while the other remains in Chattogram.
