Turf war: Chhatra Dal leader reportedly hacked by BNP men in Barishal

A Jatiotabadi Chhatra Dal leader in Barishal's Bakerganj upazila was allegedly attacked and had the tendons of his hands and feet severed by a group of local BNP leaders and activists last night (8 March).
Asadullah, president of the Niamati union Chhatra Dal unit, came under attack in the Niamati bazar area at around 10pm yesterday, following a longstanding dispute, according to locals.
He was rescued by the police and admitted to Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital (SBMCH) for treatment.
Bakerganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Shafiqul Islam told The Business Standard that local reports confirmed a dispute between the two groups.
"The attackers found Asadullah alone and pounced on him. A complaint has been filed, and we are conducting operations to arrest the accused," he said.
According to local sources, there has been a longstanding dispute over establishing dominance between Asadullah and local BNP leaders, including union BNP Convener Salam Mridha and Joint Convener Shahin Faraji.
Asadullah claimed that a group of seven to eight individuals, led by the BNP leaders, ambushed him at the market with sharp weapons.
Upon receiving information, police arrived at the scene, rescued Asadullah, and initially took him to the Upazila Health Complex before transferring him to SBMCH for advanced medical care.
