Measles outbreak: 11 more children die, death toll rises to 499
DGHS says 1,261 patients with measles-like symptoms were admitted to hospitals nationwide in the last 24 hours, while 54 new cases were laboratory-confirmed.
Another 11 children have died from measles and measles-like symptoms across the country in the last 24 hours, between 8am yesterday and 8am today (22 May), raising the total death toll this year to 499, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
Among the latest deaths, nine children were confirmed to have measles through laboratory testing, while two others died with suspected measles symptoms.
DGHS said 1,261 patients with measles-like symptoms were admitted to hospitals nationwide during the same period.
Of them, 54 cases were laboratory-confirmed as measles.
According to DGHS data, at least 85 children have died from confirmed measles infections so far this year, while another 414 children died with symptoms consistent with the disease.
The health directorate said a total of 8,329 measles cases were confirmed through laboratory testing between 15 March and 22 May.
According to the latest health bulletin, authorities have identified 60,540 suspected measles cases nationwide.
