According to the airline, the flight was at an altitude of around 15,000 feet and was preparing to land when the turbulence struck.
A cabin crew member of Biman Bangladesh Airlines sustained injury after a flight encountered sudden turbulence mid-air today (19 September).
The incident occurred on flight BG-0128, which was operating from Abu Dhabi to Dhaka via Chattogram.
"The injured crew member, Shabama Azmi Mithila, was immediately taken to the National Institute of Traumatology and Orthopaedic Rehabilitation in Dhaka upon arrival," Biman Bangladesh Airlines' General Manager (public relations) Boshra Islam told The Business Standard.
"X-ray examinations confirmed that the bone above her left elbow was fractured. We request everyone's prayers and support for her swift recovery," she added.
According to the airline, the flight was at an altitude of around 15,000 feet and was preparing to land when the turbulence struck. At the time, Mithila was performing her routine duties in the cabin.
The turbulence, which lasted for about six seconds, began suddenly before the seatbelt warning signal had been switched on. The unexpected jolt caused her to lose balance and fall, resulting in the fracture.
