Two people were killed after a Dhaka-bound Panchagarh Express train hit a drum truck at an unprotected level crossing in Gazipur's Akkas Market area last night (2 September).
The deceased were identified as truck driver Uzzal Hossain, 37, son of Kurman Ali from Poila Purbo Para in Ghior upazila of Manikganj, and his helper Babul Khan, 55, son of Shah Alam from Uttara Kamarpara's Abdullahpur area in Dhaka.
The accident occurred around 11pm when the Panchagarh Express, which had departed from Dhaka after 10pm, collided with the soil-carrying truck, leaving the vehicle mangled.
The bodies were later sent to Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmad Medical College Hospital morgue.
Confirming the incident this morning (3 September), Mahmudul Hasan, station master of Joydebpur Railway Junction, said, "The Panchagarh Express train collided with a drum truck while passing an unprotected level crossing in Dakshinkhan's Akkas Market area. The truck driver and his helper were killed in the accident."
He added that the truck was used to transport soil and that police later recovered the bodies and sent them to the hospital morgue.
