Tribunal’s verdict in Hasina case will be executed, assures home adviser
Law enforcement agencies are fully prepared to prevent any untoward incident centring the verdict, he says
The government will implement whatever verdict the tribunal delivers tomorrow in the case against former prime minister Sheikh Hasina, Home Affairs Adviser Lt Gen (retd) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury said today (16 November).
"I do not know what the tribunal will decide, but whatever the verdict may be, it will be implemented and people will abide by it," he said while talking to reporters after a meeting with senior officials of law enforcement agencies and the field administration in Barishal District Police Lines.
Law enforcement agencies are fully prepared to prevent any untoward incident centring the verdict, he said.
"I will not say the law and order situation is very good or very bad. What exists now is satisfactory. No one has ever said that the law and order situation in the country over the past 54 years since independence has been very good. Minor unrest in a few places over the last two to three days will be brought under control with cooperation from all."
The field administration has been instructed to take all necessary preparations to ensure a free, fair and festive national election, he said.
Law enforcement personnel are preparing accordingly, he added.
"I hope this time the election will be held smoothly. A free and fair election does not depend solely on administration; it also depends on the Election Commission, political parties, and ultimately the people. Once the people engage in the electoral process, no one can stop it, " said the Home Adviser.
The adviser said election posters are already visible in various areas and several parties have begun announcing candidates, which is a good sign.
