Traffic sergeants to get small arms to combat mugging: DMP commissioner
"We have noticed incidents of snatching on the streets. However, due to a lack of manpower, traffic sergeants could not take immediate action," he also said

The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) will provide traffic sergeants with small arms in a bid to prevent mugging and robberies on Dhaka streets.
"We have noticed incidents of snatching on the streets. However, due to a lack of manpower, traffic sergeants could not take immediate action. Therefore, an initiative has been taken to provide arms to traffic sergeants," DMP Commissioner Sheikh M Shazzat Ali said while inaugurating a bus counter and e-ticketing system at the Uttara Azampur Kacha Bazar area today (6 February).
Stating that the number of robberies has decreased, the DMP commissioner said, "Due to the recent increase in robberies, strict operations are being conducted. As a result of massive raids, numerous robbers have been arrested. Due to this, the number of robberies has decreased significantly in the last 15 days."
Highlighting the importance of introducing a counter system to restore passenger service and order on the roads, he said, "Drivers, owners and passengers must be aware. If there is any irregularity, complain to the traffic police."
In addition, the DMP commissioner called on the owners to provide appropriate appointment letters to drivers.
