The torturer must face trial: Kamal on Sylhet police custody death

Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal has said the death of a Sylhet youth who was allegedly tortured to death in police custody will be investigated in a fair manner and the responsible individual must face trial.
He made the remarks while talking to reporters at the Secretariat on Wednesday noon, reports Somoy TV.
On Sunday, the youth Rayhan Ahmed died in police custody following torture, his family alleged. However, police denied the allegation and claimed that Rayhan was caught mugging by the locals and was lynched.
Asked about the ongoing protests against rape incidents, the Home Minister said the government had prioritized proper investigations into the rape incidents.
Besides, the punishment for rape has been upgraded to death penalty from life term.
Mentioning that the trial is in the hands of the court, Kamal also said the courts will take steps in this regard.
