Titumir college students lift blockade
Students blocked both sides of the road at 12pm today (2 February) in front of their college in Mohakhali using bamboo barricades

Students of Titumir College -- who have been on hunger strike for five days -- lifted their blockade programme today (2 February).
Earlier, they had blocked the Mohakhali-Gulshan link road near the college.
After the blockade was lifted, vehicular movement returned to normalcy, Gulshan Zone (Traffic) ADC Zia Rahman Ziko said.
Students blocked both sides of the road at 12pm today (2 February) in front of their college in Mohakhali using bamboo barricades.
Traffic between Mohakhali and Gulshan came to a complete halt due to the blockade. Students occupied the road, chanting slogans in support of their demands.
Meanwhile, as the road was suddenly blocked, passengers engaged in conversations with the protesting students, requesting them to clear the way. The students said they would not leave until their demands were met.
Four students have fallen ill and are currently receiving treatment at Suhrawardy Hospital.
Speaking to reporters after an ECNEC meeting this afternoon, Education Advisor Wahiduddin Mahmud said the government will not take any hasty decision regarding the Titumir College students' demand that their institution be declared a university.
Noting that colleges with richer heritage such as Khulna BL College, BM Collecge, MC College and Rajshahi College exist, the adviser said there is no scope to accept the "unreasonable demands" of the Titumir College students.
"The seven colleges and Dhaka University no longer wish to remain affiliated. Therefore, an initiative is underway to establish a separate university for the seven colleges.
"A committee is currently working on this, but setting a fixed timeline for the implementation is not ideal at this moment," he added.
"Many Titumir College students want to return to classes. They do not support causing public suffering," he also said.
He urged students to be mindful of public inconvenience during protests.
