Titas disconnects illegal gas connections in drive, collects fines

Titas Gas Transmission and Distribution PLC continues its drive to identify and remove illegal gas connections.

Operations are being conducted under the leadership of executive magistrates and company personnel in areas under Titas' jurisdiction, including Demra, Keraniganj, Kamrangirchar, Munshiganj, Narayanganj, Savar, Tongi, Gazipur, Dhanmondi, Mirpur, Gulshan, Mymensingh, Meghnaghat and Narsingdi.

As part of this initiative, on 9 February 2025, an operation was conducted in three locations under the jurisdiction of Metro Dhaka Marketing Division-2 of Titas Gas T&D PLC, with the overall supervision of executive magistrate Fazle Wahid, attached to the Energy and Mineral Resources Division. The operation targeted Brahmankitta and Khagail in the Keraniganj Model Police Station area.

At the first location in Brahmankitta, an unnamed earthenware factory used two heating chambers with a gas load of 450 cubic feet per hour. The second site in Khagail housed another unnamed earthenware factory with four heating chambers and a gas load of 550 cubic feet per hour.

The third site in Khagail was an unnamed scissor factory operating one furnace with a gas load of 800 cubic feet per hour.
During the operation, 130 feet of 3/4-inch pipeline, five boosters/compressors, approximately 250 feet of hose pipe, and six burner bars (40 individual bars) were seized. The estimated gas savings from the operation amount to 1,800 cubic feet per hour, with a daily value of approximately Tk 15,856.

Additionally, on the same day, the gas connection of Mizan CNG (738/838000618), a CNG refuelling station under ZOBIA-Ashulia, was immediately severed after detecting counterfeit and reinstalled original and security seals on its compressor and captive power meter. Based on the load, the estimated gas savings from this disconnection amount to Tk 150 million per month.
Since September 2024, 22,656 illegal gas connections, including 181 industrial, 100 commercial, and 22,375 residential connections, have been disconnected through these operations. Furthermore, 51,608 burners have been removed, and 112 kilometres of pipeline have been dismantled.
