Three individuals were sentenced to life imprisonment for the murder of Sabbir Rahman, a construction worker, in Rupganj, Narayanganj.

Additionally, the court imposed a fine of Tk1 lakh on each convict, with a two-year rigorous imprisonment sentence in case of non-payment.

The verdict was delivered today (16 March) by Judge Mohammad Abu Shamim Azad of the Narayanganj District and Sessions Court in the presence of the accused.

Police Inspector Kaiyum Khan confirmed the ruling.

The convicted individuals are Ashraful Islam, son of Ibrahim Molla from Rasulpur in Ulipur, Kurigram District; Anisur Rahman, son of the late Abdul Hamid from the same area; and Mizanur Rahman, son of Ibrahim Ali.

Police Officer Kaiyum explained that the accused and the victim were close friends and all worked as construction labourers. In November 2021, Sabbir purchased an expensive mobile phone, which the three accused planned to steal. On November 20, 2021, they murdered Sabbir by strangulation, using an iron rod and GI wire typically employed in construction work.

After the murder, the body of Sabbir was concealed under a building that was under construction.

The victim's uncle subsequently filed a murder case, and following a lengthy trial, the court finally handed down its decision today.
