TBS reporter wins Brac Migration Media Award
Some 17 journalists and a media organisation were awarded this year

Zia Chowdhury, staff correspondent (Crime) of The Business Standard, won the Brac Migration Media Award on Thursday.
His report "8 years of a perilous journey chasing the American dream" was awarded the second prize in the "National Newspaper" category at the sixth annual award ceremony.
The report was about a Bangladeshi youth's struggle to get into the United States illegally and how his dreams were thwarted after he was caught red-handed by Brazilian police which ended his eight-year dream of gaining American citizenship.
The jury and guests present at the prize-giving ceremony praised how the news was presented and the infographics that accompanied the story.
Some 17 journalists and a media organisation received the prestigious award from Expatriates' Welfare and Overseas Employment Minister Imran Ahmed this year.
The Daily Samakal's Abu Jar Ansar Uddin Ahmed won first prize in the "National Newspaper" category and Prothom Alo's Md Mohiuddin won third prize.
Nur Islam of Chattagram's Dainik Mahanagar won first prize in the "Newspaper (regional)" category, while Md Emdad Ullah of Daily Fenir Shomoy, and Riazul Islam Sarker of Narsingdi based Daily Ajker Khojkhabar, won second and third prize respectively in the same category.
Sabina Yasmin of DBC Television, Md Saidur Rahman Khan of Nagorik TV, and Salahuddin Ahmed of Jamuna TV, won awards in the "Television" category.
In the "Television Programme" category, Md Ashikur Rahman Rony of News24 and Shahnaz Sharmin of Nagorik TV won awards. In the "Radio" category, Samrat Hossain of Earshot Podcast and Md Mostafizur Rahman of Bangladesh Betar were awarded.
In the "Online" category, the winners were Mansura Hossain of Prothom Alo, Saddif Sohorab of Bangla Tribune, and freelancer Rakib Hasan. The only winner in the "Social Media Content" category was Meraj Hossain Gazi of Prabash Totho Kendra. The online news portal Prabas Barta was awarded in the "Media Institutions" category.
Each winner received a crest, a certificate of recognition, and a prize money cheque.
Bureau of Manpower, Employment and Training (BMET) Director-General Md Shahidul Alam, Brac Executive Director Asif Saleh, Senior Director KMM Morshed, and Head of Brac Migration Programme, Shariful Hasan, were present on the occasion.
Brac introduced the award in 2015 to recognise immigration journalism. The award is given by the Brac Migration Program Inspiration Project in collaboration with the Royal Danish Embassy in Bangladesh.
