Task force conducts drive in Brahmanbaria rice market

A special task force has conducted an operation in Brahmanbaria to control rice prices in the market ahead of Eid-ul-Fitr.
During the drive, two businesses were fined a total of Tk12,000 for failing to provide purchase receipts and accurate stock information.
The operation took place at Anandabazar in the district town today (19 March) at noon, led by Iftekharul Alam Rizvi, assistant director of the district Directorate of National Consumer Rights Protection.
According to sources, rice prices in Brahmanbaria have suddenly increased without any valid reason ahead of Eid.

He added, "As an initial warning, a small fine has been imposed. However, stricter legal measures will be taken under the storage law if necessary."
Also present during the operation were Brahmanbaria Assistant Food Controller Sarwar Amin, Food Inspector Ramim Pathan, and SM Shaheen, general secretary of the Consumers Association of Bangladesh (CAB), Brahmanbaria branch.
