ACC raids Dhaka South over corruption in mosquito control, waste management
A company previously blacklisted by Dhaka North allegedly secured Tk48cr in insecticide supply contracts from Dhaka South after establishing a new firm.
The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) conducted an enforcement operation at Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) today (16 September) over allegations of corruption in mosquito control and household waste management, including the alleged use of kerosene instead of insecticide.
A five-member ACC team led by Assistant Director Mehedi Musa Jebin and Deputy Assistant Director Habibur Rahman conducted the operation at the DSCC office in the afternoon, ACC Public Relations Officer Md Aktarul Islam confirmed.
The allegations include collusion among contractors, laboratory officials and influential local figures to misappropriate public funds allocated for mosquito control and waste management, the ACC said.

According to the complaint, individuals associated with The Limit Agro, a company previously blacklisted by Dhaka North City Corporation for allegedly supplying adulterated insecticide, later established a new company called Forward International.
The new company allegedly secured insecticide supply contracts worth around Tk48 crore from DSCC over the past two years, according to the complaint.
The complaint further alleges that although the insecticides passed laboratory quality tests, kerosene was sprayed instead of the supplied insecticides during mosquito control operations in the field.
The ACC also received allegations of irregularities and overcharging in household waste collection.
Under DSCC rules, a maximum of Tk100 is supposed to be charged per flat. However, residents in areas including Dhanmondi, Azimpur, Kathalbagan and Jatrabari are allegedly being charged between Tk120 and Tk250.
Businesses are also allegedly being charged above the prescribed rates for waste collection, according to the allegations.
ACC Public Relations Officer Md Aktarul Islam said the operation was conducted based on specific allegations to verify documents and carry out an on-site investigation.
"Those involved in the allegations are being identified by examining the roles of the individuals and organisations concerned. If evidence is found, legal action will be taken in accordance with the law," he said.
