Badruddin Umar, a renowned Writer, activist, intellectual, and leftist political figure Badruddin Umar has passed away this morning while on his way to Specialized Hospital in Shyamoli after falling ill.
In a Facebook post, Tarique Rahman remembered Umar as a fearless and independent-minded intellectual whose passing leaves a profound sense of loss among the people.
He highlighted Umar's lifelong dedication to progressive politics, his activism from the 1952 Language Movement to the struggle for Bangladesh's independence, and his fearless stance against authoritarianism.
Tarique also praised Umar's research-based books on political, social, cultural, and economic changes in Bangladesh, describing them as highly respected and invaluable resources. He noted that despite facing repeated state repression, Umar remained steadfast in his ideals and never hesitated to voice independent opinions.
Tarique Rahman prayed for Umar's soul and extended heartfelt condolences to his family, followers, and well-wishers.
