Tagging politics saw landslide defeat in Ducsu polls, says Asif Nazrul
He urges Shibir leaders who won the Ducsu polls to collaborate with all July stakeholders

The so-called "tagging politics" witnessed a landslide defeat in yesterday's Dhaka University Central Students' Union (Ducsu) elections, Law Adviser Asif Nazrul said today (10 September).
In a Facebook post, the law adviser congratulated the Shibir leaders who won the Ducsu polls and urged them to move beyond partisan divides and collaborate with all stakeholders involved in last year's July uprising.
"Congratulations to the leaders of Chhatra Shibir who won the Ducsu elections. Congratulations to the independent candidates who emerged victorious. And congratulations to all participants who accepted the results of this election," reads the post.
He wrote, "Various analyses are being conducted on the landslide victory of Chhatra Shibir, but I will say just one thing: the politics of giving tags has been defeated decisively through this election.
"During Hasina's tenure, inhuman torture was inflicted on countless Shibir activists and ordinary students labeled with Shibir tags. Incidents of students being handed over to the police after being beaten on mere suspicion of having Shibir affiliations were routine."

Mentioning that he had consistently protested against the atrocities strongly, Asif Nazrul said, "Despite various threats and attacks, I have never stopped speaking out."
The adviser also noted that there is still so much problems prevailing at Dhaka University.
"I hope that in this fascist-free Bangladesh, you will address at least some of the serious issues faced by the residential students of Dhaka University," he added.
