Sub-divisional engineer dismissed for 'misconduct, absconding'

The Ministry of Housing and Public Works has dismissed Sub-Divisional Engineer (Civil) Debotosh Deb from service on charges of "misconduct" and "absconding" after being absent from duty without permission.
According to the ministry, the departmental case filed against him was proven in an investigation. Following due process, with the opinion of the Public Service Commission and the approval of the president, the dismissal order, signed by Housing and Public Works Secretary Md Nazrul Islam, was issued on 12 August 2025, reads a notice issued by the Ministry of Housing and Public Works.
Debotosh Deb, then serving in the Public Works Sub-Division-2, Sylhet, had traveled to Canada on 27 February 2024, with 15 days' approved earned leave to visit his ailing sister. However, after the leave period expired, he failed to return to work, ignored the authorities' instructions, and did not respond to a show-cause notice. He has remained absent from duty since 13 March 2024.
