Student abducted in Thakurgaon found dead after three weeks despite ransom payment; 3 arrested

A month after his abduction, the body of Milon Hossain, 23, was recovered from an abandoned toilet in Thakurgaon's Shibganj Maheshpur area in the early hours of Thursday (20 March), despite his family paid Tk25 lakh in ransom, police said.
Milon Hossain, son of Panjab Ali of Chapapara village in Pirganj upazila was abducted by his friend Sejan Ali on 23 February and the kidnappers demanded Tk3 lakh as ransom from the family of Milon, reports UNB.
As Milon's family agreed to pay the ransom, the kidnappers demanded Tk5 lakh, then Tk10 and then Tk15 lakh. Later, they realised Tk25 lakh as ransom from the family of Milon on 9 March.
As per the instruction of the abductors, Milon's father threw the bag containing ransom money from the moving Dhaka-bound intercity train 'Ekota Expres' from Panchagarh at Senua.
After getting the ransom money, the abductors asked Milon's family to take Milon from Dinajpur Rail Station.
As they failed to get Milon after giving ransom money, Milon's father lodged a complaint with the local police station.
Police arrested Sejan Ali, 28, son of Matier Rahman, Murad, 25, son of Saiful Islam and Ratna Akter Riva, 19, daughter of Abdur Razzak in this connection yesterday, Thakurgaon Detective Branch Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mamunur Rashid said.
"Following interrogation, they confessed to Milon's murder and led police to his body. Police also recovered Tk4.97 lakh from the possession of Murad," he said.
"We were working on this case for several days but had no leads. With the help of technology, we arrested three individuals who eventually provided information about Milan's whereabouts. Further details will be shared soon," the OC added.
Angered by the incident, local people besieged the office of local administration on Thursday afternoon demanding capital punishment of the killers.
The agitated locals also blocked Thakurgaon intersection in Thakurgaon district town, halting vehicular movement for two hours.
Meanwhile, an angry mob carried out an attack on the house and shop of the prime accused Sejan and vandalised those. They also set the house of Sejan on fire.
Sejan's mother Sheuli Begum was detained by police when she tried to resist the locals.
