Strengthening skill-based training essential for aviation sector: Experts
Skilled human resources and internationally standardised training are critical for Bangladesh's civil aviation sector, speakers said at a seminar on "Training Competency Development Framework" today (10 March) at the Civil Aviation Academy.
In his inaugural speech, Md Majibur Rahman Miaji, deputy director (ATM) of the academy, said safety, security, and efficiency in aviation largely depend on professionals' skills.
"Alongside technology and infrastructure, skilled human resources are crucial for safe and effective operations," he said.
As the lead presenter, Prasanta Kumar Chakraborty, International Civil Aviation Organisation instructor and director of the Civil Aviation Academy, discussed ICAO's training framework, the TRAINAIR PLUS Programme, and various aspects of competency-based training.
He noted that the ICAO Global Aviation Training (GAT) initiative provides a coordinated structure for aviation training worldwide. Under this, the TRAINAIR PLUS Programme plays a key role in improving training standards globally, enabling member institutions to develop and implement competency-based courses and foster international cooperation in training.
The Civil Aviation Academy, established in 1975, has made significant progress in delivering internationally compliant training. After regaining ICAO TRAINAIR PLUS membership in 2022, the academy achieved Silver status in 2024 and Gold status in 2025, marking a major milestone in its capability to provide world-class training.
