‘Shipping workers’ strike will be resolved today’
The employer-worker relationship should be friendly and cordial
State Minister for Shipping Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury said the ongoing strike of shipping workers will be resolved by today as the authorities are in a continuous discussion with the ship owners and shipping workers.
After a meeting with the newly appointed Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Vikram Doraiswami in his office room at the secretariat today, the state minister told the reporters that Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA) under the Ministry of Shipping, and the Department of Shipping are involved in the ongoing discussion.
"The main demand of the shipping workers is food allowance; of course, it is their fair demand. There is no doubt about it. The workers had gone on strike before. It was resolved through discussion. The workers are helpless," said the state minister.

"They earn their livelihood through labour. The employer-worker relationship should be friendly and cordial. We will solve this by coordinating with the owners and workers," he added.
Meanwhile, the minister discussed bilateral issues of mutual interest with the Indian High Commissioner including Payra Port, Mongla Port and Ashuganj Port. The excavation of Sonamura water route and Ichhamati River was also discussed.
