Sheikh Hasina's uncle Sheikh Kabir leaves for Singapore via airport
Sheikh Kabir Hossain has been the continuous president of the Bangladesh Insurance Association (BIA) since 2011
Sheikh Kabir Hossain, uncle of ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina, left the country on Sunday morning (8 June) for Singapore via Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport.
Multiple sources responsible for the immigration police and law enforcement agencies confirmed this information to Prothom Alo.
Sheikh Kabir was a very influential name in various sectors, including the financial sector, during Sheikh Hasina's rule. He has held various top positions in 23 institutions, organisations, and agencies during the Awami League regime, reports Prothom Alo.
Kabir has been the continuous president of the Bangladesh Insurance Association (BIA), an association of insurance company owners, since 2011.
During the Awami League regime, due to his identity as Hasina's uncle, there was no normal election of the BIA committee for a two-year term.
When asked about Kabir's departure from the country, Special Branch (SB) DIG (Immigration) Moazzem Hossain told Prothom Alo that he left the country on a flight on Sunday morning. When asked if there was any ban on his foreign travel, he refused to comment on the matter.
