Seriously injured CU student shifted to Dhaka, another in ICU after head surgery
According to CU administration and locals, around 700 people including 400 students and 300 villagers were injured in the clashes at the university
One Chittagong University (CU) student injured in today's clash between students and locals has been shifted to National Institute of Traumatology and Orthopaedic Rehabilitation (Nitor) in Dhaka for advanced treatment, while another is in the ICU at a private hospital in Chattogram after undergoing head surgery.
Hospital authorities and students confirmed the matter to The Business Standard tonight (31 August).
Among the injured, Naimul Islam, a student of Islamic Studies (batch 2022–23), sustained multiple injuries, including to his head and right elbow, and requires hand surgery. He was first treated at Chattogram's National Hospital before being taken to Nitor.
Another injured, Imtiaz Uddin Sayem, a student of International Relations (batch 2020–21), suffered a sharp weapon injury to the head and underwent surgery at Park View Hospital. He is undergoing treatment in the ICU in critical condition.
Park View Hospital General Manager Talukder Ziaur Sharif said, "Eight injured from the CU clash are currently admitted here. One underwent head surgery and is now in the ICU. His oxygen saturation has stabilised, but he is still not out of danger."
According to CU administration and locals, around 700 people including 400 students and 300 villagers were injured in the clashes at the university.
A total of 107 have been admitted in Chattogram Medical College Hospital, 24 in Park View Hospital and 10, including 7 members of police in Hathazari Upazila Health Complex.
Besides, five journalists who went to cover the event also sustained injuries during the clash.
