Rear Admiral Khondkar Misbah Ul Azim appointed new Bangladesh Navy chief
Currently serving as Bangladesh's ambassador to Oman, he will be promoted to vice admiral and assume charge as the chief of the Bangladesh Navy on 23 July.
Rear Admiral Khondkar Misbah Ul Azim has been appointed as the next chief of the Bangladesh Navy, according to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).
In a statement issued on Thursday (16 July), ISPR said Khondkar Misbah Ul Azim will be promoted to the rank of vice admiral on 23 July.
He will assume charge as the chief of the Bangladesh Navy on the same day.

Khondkar Misbah Ul Azim is currently serving as Bangladesh's ambassador to Oman.
The rear admiral joined the Bangladesh Navy in January 1987 and was commissioned in the Executive Branch in July 1989 after completing his basic naval officer training at the Royal Malaysian Navy. He ranked first in both seniority and merit in his batch.
During a naval career spanning nearly four decades, he has held several key command, staff and instructional appointments, including commander of the Chattogram Naval Area, Dhaka Naval Area and the submarine command. He also served as commandant of the Bangladesh Naval Academy and held the posts of director of naval operations and director of naval plans at Naval Headquarters.
Azim has commanded several naval warships and served as an instructor at the Bangladesh Naval Academy, Defence Services Command and Staff College and National Defence College. He also served in United Nations peacekeeping missions in Lebanon and the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
He holds a PhD in Maritime Governance from Bangladesh University of Professionals, along with an MPhil and master's degrees in strategic, defence and operational studies. He has received the Bangladesh Navy's highest peacetime decoration, the Noubahini Padak (NBP), as well as the Nou Paradarshita Padak (NPP), among other honours.
