'Razakars coming to National Memorial puts us to shame', says Aamjanata Dal's Tarek
'Razakars’ presence at the memorial put us in a disgraceful situation', he says
Aamjanata Dal Member Secretary Md Tarek Rahman today (26 March) expressed outrage over the presence of alleged collaborators of the 1971 Liberation War at the National Memorial in Savar, saying it was "shameful" and it left him embarrassed.
Speaking to reporters after paying tribute to the martyred freedom fighters on Independence Day, Tarek said, "Razakars' presence at the memorial put us in a disgraceful situation."
Responding to a question, he alleged that ATM Azhar was the chief of the Al-Badr force in the Rangpur region during the Liberation War and was involved in the killing of hundreds of thousands of people.
"Now they come and offer prayers for the martyrs," he said.
He also said, "Having to witness such incidents [Razakars' presence] in the post-July Uprising context is unfortunate. They are flying Pakistan's flag at Baitul Mukarram. Some people are getting the freedom to pursue new ambitions. That's what it is."
