Police have arrested the fifth accused in connection with the case of a woman's gang rape and forced marriage with one of the rapists from Shinga area of Pabna early this morning.

The arrestee is Osman, who had been a fugitive since the incident.

Earlier, Officer-in-Charge Obaidul Haque and Sub Inspector Ekramul Haque of Pabna Sadar Police Station were closed and suspended respectively on Thursday for their involvements in the forced marriage.

On August 29, Russel Ahmed, the prime accused in the case, along with his four accomplices, allegedly abducted the victim and gang-raped her for several days.

After escaping the scene, the woman was admitted to Pabna General Hospital.

She submitted a written allegation to the police station on September 5.

Though police detained Russel, they did not file any case that time.

Rather, the police officers compelled the rape victim, a mother of three children, to divorce her husband and marry Russel at the police station on September 6.

Later, the woman filed a case on Monday over the rape incident accusing Russel, Shariful Islam Ghontu, Hossain, Osman and Sanju hailing from different villages in Pabna Sadar.

The district police formed a three-member committee to probe the matter on the same day, after the incidents attracted media attention.

Meanwhile, Russel confessed to his crime before a local court in Pabna on Wednesday, said Additional Police Super of Pabna Sadar Circle Ibne Mizan.

Russel and Ghontu were produced before the court on Wednesday after being arrested.

Hossain and Sanju were nabbed on Thursday and produced before the court, said Mizan.
