Ramisa's father demands swift justice over rape, murder

The father of eight-year-old Ramisa Akter has demanded a swift trial over the rape and subsequent murder of his daughter in the capital's Pallabi area.
Ramisa's father, Hannan Molla, made the demand this afternoon (22 May) after visiting her grave at the Molla family graveyard in Madhya Shialdi village under Ichhapura union of Sirajdikhan upazila in Munshiganj
At the time, he also expressed sincere gratitude to Prime Minister Tarique Rahman for standing by the family and visiting their home to inquire about their condition.
Member of Parliament for Munshiganj-1 constituency, Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah and leaders and activists from various local political parties were present.
Earlier on 19 May, police recovered Ramisa's dismembered body from a rented flat in Pallabi.
According to police, the main accused, Sohel Rana, a neighbour of Ramisa, gave a confessional statement under Section 164 before the court, admitting to raping and killing the child.
Authorities said the child's head had been severed after the killing and was later found inside a bathroom, while the main body was recovered from beneath a bed.
In the same case, his wife, Swapna Khatun, 26, has been sent to jail.
The incident has triggered nationwide protests, with demonstrators demanding the death penalty for those involved and swift justice through a speedy trial tribunal.
