Protesting students remove Sheikh family symbols from Jahangirnagar University
They erase all plaques, graffiti, and wall writings related to Sheikh Mujib’s family from the campus

Protesting students at Jahangirnagar University (JU) have removed the names of residential halls named after Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and his family, as well as erased all plaques, graffiti, and wall writings associated with them.
A group of agitated students marched from the university's Bottola area to the Institute of Comparative Literature and Culture around 11pm yesterday, where they painted over the mural of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and the graffiti on the walls of Al-Biruni Hall.
Following this, the protesters gathered in front of Sheikh Hasina Hall and demolished her mural.
Also, students of Sheikh Russel Hall renamed it "Bijoy-24 Hall."
At around 2am, residential students of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Hall removed the name plaque of the dormitory and decided to rename it.
Regarding the erasure of symbols related to the Sheikh family, Nazmul Islam Limon, a 50th-batch student of the Anthropology department, said, "Killer Hasina's provocative remarks from India have enraged the students and the public. Moreover, Sheikh Hasina has used fascist Mujib's legacy to commercialise the spirit of the Liberation War, fostering fascism in the process."
"As students of this university, we are dismantling these symbols of fascism. This sends a clear message that no one will be allowed to assume the role of fascist Mujib again," he added.
Yahia Jisan, convener of the Jahangirnagar Reform Movement, said, "Fascist Sheikh Hasina has conspired against the country from India, we will not tolerate this. She must be brought back to the country immediately and tried for genocide. There will be no remnants of fascist Sheikh Hasina or Mujibism at Jahangirnagar University."
