Protesters block Shahbagh demanding removal of IGP Baharul over Pintu murder case
Several hundred people began blocking the intersection at around 3:30pm under the banner "Shaheed Pintu Smriti Sangsad"
Residents from Wari, Gendaria, Old Dhaka and several other neighbourhoods blocked the Shahbagh intersection in the capital today (9 December), demanding the removal, arrest and trial of Inspector General of Police Baharul Alam over alleged involvement in the killing of BNP leader Nasiruddin Ahmed Pintu.
In a press statement, the office secretary of the "Shaheed Pintu Smriti Sangsad" claimed that the IGP had links to the killing, prompting their blockade to press for his removal and prosecution.
Confirming the incident, Shahbagh Police Station Officer-in-Charge Moniruzzaman said several hundred people began blocking the intersection at around 3:30pm under the banner of the organisation. The blockade was lifted shortly after 4:00pm.
Traffic came to a standstill during the protest, causing significant inconvenience for commuters in the busy area.
