Protesters block Dhaka-Ctg highway for 1hr in Narayanganj demanding justice for Hadi murder
Around 40-45 protesters had gathered at the site, chanting slogans demanding punishment for those responsible for Hadi's murder.
Students and locals in Narayanganj blocked the Dhaka-Chattogram Highway for one hour today (28 December), demanding justice for the killing of Inqilab Mancha spokesperson Shaif Osman Hadi.
Responding to a call by Inqilab Mancha, the protesters staged the blockade at the Signboard area from 3:30pm to 4:30pm, causing severe traffic congestion on both lanes of the highway.
Narayanganj Additional Superintendent of Police (Crime) Tarek Mehdi said that the protesters were persuaded to clear the road, and traffic movement has since returned to normal.
Around 40-45 protesters had gathered at the site, chanting slogans demanding punishment for those responsible for Hadi's murder. Despite the blockade, demonstrators were seen allowing ambulances carrying patients to pass through.
Nirab Raihan, a central organiser of Jatiya Jubo Shakti, said they joined the Inqilab Mancha's divisional programme in solidarity with the demand for justice for Osman Hadi.
"We will continue our movement until justice is served. For now, we have cleared the highway and are heading towards Shahbagh," he said.
Jabed Alam, a member of the Narayanganj district NCP coordination committee, said the protesters decided to lift the blockade for the time being to reduce public suffering.
"If necessary, we will take to the streets again to demand justice for Hadi," he added.
