Pride Group declares partial lay-off at 2 factories in Savar
The lay-off, which will remain in effect until 30 April

Pride Group, a ready-made garment manufacturer, has declared a partial lay-off at two of its factories in the Ulail area of Savar, citing fuel shortages, financial strain, and a lack of work orders.
The lay-off, which will remain in effect until 30 April, affects operations at HR Textile Mills Ltd and Fashion Knit Garments Ltd, according to official notices issued by the company yesterday (5 April).
However, several departments will remain operational during this period.
The textile division, administration (partial), and security department of HR Textile Mills Ltd, along with the administration (partial) and security unit of Fashion Knit Garments Ltd, are exempt from the lay-off.
This decision was made public through two separate notices signed by Monirul Islam, general manager (administration and compliance) of the company, and displayed at the factory entrances.
Confirming the lay-off, Monirul Islam told The Business Standard that the decision was mainly due to a fuel crisis, some financial difficulties, and a shortage of work orders.
"The management is actively working to resolve the ongoing issues and expressed hope that the factories will soon return to full-scale operations," he added.
The official also mentioned that prior to Eid, all salaries, allowances, and bonuses were paid to the workers, and Eid holidays were declared accordingly.
According to the notice, from 7 April to 30 April, all operations of the garments divisions (excluding the departments mentioned above) at both factories will remain closed under Section 12 of the Bangladesh Labour Act 2006.
The notice also stated that the lay-off is being implemented due to sudden economic disruptions, a severe shortage of raw materials and fuel, and a lack of orders, all of which are beyond the control of the factory owners.
It further mentions that production activities are scheduled to resume on 3 May, but if the crisis persists, the closure and lay-off period may be extended in accordance with the provisions of the Bangladesh Labour Act 2006.
All remaining wages and benefits for March 2025 will be paid on time and credited to employees' bank accounts, the notices adds.
