One held, pickup truck seized over alleged TCB goods smuggling in Savar

Police have arrested a man and seized a pickup van for allegedly smuggling goods of the Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB) in Savar.
The man, Md Liton Mia, 39, was arrested around 1:30am today during a raid in the Kaliakoir area of Birulia union, Dhaka (North) Detective Branch Officer-in-Charge Md Jalal Uddin said in a statement this afternoon (12 August).
Police seized 1,800 litres of bottled soybean oil (100 cartons), 1,500kg of flour (30 sacks), 800kg of sugar (16 sacks), and 1,350kg of lentils (27 sacks) from the vehicle.
Speaking to The Business Standard over the phone, the DB official said, "Acting on a tip-off, we intercepted a small truck carrying TCB goods. Preliminary information suggests the products belong to a man named Atik from Savar's Rajashan.
"We are investigating which dealer was involved and where the goods were being transported from and to. Details will be shared later."
He added that legal action is underway in connection with the incident.
