‘PP, ACC officials liable over Jaha Alam’s case’

An Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) lawyer on Thursday held some officials of the commission and a public prosecutor responsible for jute worker Jaha Alam’s loan scam and embezzlement.

“Lack of coordination from the authorities concerned made this misappropriation possible,” said ACC lawyer Advocate Khurshid Alam Khan.

“ACC officials and the Public Prosecutor (PP) of Jaha’s case cannot avoid their responsibility.”

The ACC on Thursday submitted a 23-page report to the High Court (HC) on Jaha’s embezzlement case.

The report was submitted to the HC bench of Justice FRM Nazmul Ahasan and Justice KM Kamrul Kader.

Jute factory worker Jaha Alam was arrested in February 2016 in connection with a case filed over loan scam and embezzlement of Tk18.5 crore from Sonali Bank Limited. The case was filed by the ACC.

On June 27 this year, the HC bench asked the ACC to submit its internal investigation report on Jaha’s case by July 11.
