Poultry traders demand fixing minimum price for eggs
Assuming a daily production of 4.5 crore pieces of eggs, farmers’ loss in the last 21 days stands at Tk159-Tk206 crore, according to traders

Poultry traders have demanded fixing the minimum price for eggs due to fall in prices.
At a views-exchange meeting with journalists in Dhaka, they said many farmers are selling their chickens to cope with losses due to an "abnormal" fall in egg prices this month.
The Bangladesh Poultry Industries Coordination Committee (BPICC) and the World's Poultry Science Association, Bangladesh (WAPSA-BB) organised the event at a hotel in Dhaka.
Speaking on the occasion, WAPSA-BB President Mashiur Rahman said farmers are incurring an average of Tk1.69-Tk2.19 loss for selling each egg.
Eggs are being sold at Tk10-Tk10.5 per piece in retail markets of the capital, he also said.
"Assuming a daily production of 4.5 crore pieces of eggs, the farmers' loss in the last 21 days stands at Tk159-Tk206 crore.
"Unable to cope with the losses, many farmers are being forced to sell chickens - which is very worrying because after Ramadan, demand will increase and if there is a shortage in supply, prices will increase," he further said.
