Ad-din Hospital fined Tk3 lakh over absence of temperature monitoring system, unhygienic conditions
The fine was imposed this afternoon (31 May) during a joint drive conducted by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) and the Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC).
A mobile court has fined Ad-din Hospital in the capital's Moghbazar area Tk3 lakh for operating health services without a temperature monitoring system and in an unhygienic environment.
The fine was imposed this afternoon (31 May) during a joint drive conducted by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) and the Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC).
The drive was led by DSCC Executive Magistrate Mohammad Aminul Islam.
Earlier in the day, a Supreme Court lawyer has served a legal notice on the government, demanding the formation of an independent judicial inquiry commission to investigate the recent deaths of six children at Ad-din Hospital in the capital.
Speaking to the media today, Supreme Court lawyer and National Lawyers' Council Chairman Advocate SM Zulfikar Ali Junu said he had sent the notice to the health minister, health secretary, home secretary, law secretary, inspector general of police (IGP), director general of RAB and other relevant authorities.
The notice also calls for a judicial investigation into the incident and nationwide mobile court drives to assess the quality of emergency medical services and curb irregularities in private hospitals, clinics and diagnostic centres.
This development comes after the investigation committee, formed to probe the deaths of six newborns at the Ad-din Medical College Hospital, has not submitted its report as scheduled for yesterday (30 May).
The deadline for submitting the report has been extended by a few days, with the committee now scheduled to submit it on 3 June, said Health Minister Sardar Md Sakhawat Hossain.
Speaking to journalists at the Directorate General of Health Services, the health minister said the committee had sought additional time to examine various other aspects of the incident in greater depth.
Investigators probing the deaths of six newborns at Ad-din Hospital in Moghbazar, Dhaka, have found evidence of construction flaws in the hospital's post-operative ward.
Earlier on 27 May, six newborn babies died in a ward at the private Ad-Din Medical College Hospital, prompting the authorities to take immediate action.
Following the incident, the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) formed a three-member high-powered probe committee and asked it to submit a report within 72 hours, DGHS Director General Prof Dr Pravath Chandra Biswas said after inspecting the facility and speaking to reporters.
Later, the bodies of the six newborns were handed over to their families without autopsy after obtaining police permission.
