Tarique urges govt to intensify diplomatic push for Rohingya repatriation on World Refugee Day
“...this crisis remains one of the world’s gravest, and the burden is growing to levels that are dangerously unsustainable,” says the acting BNP chairman.

On the occasion of World Refugee Day, Acting BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman has issued a statement expressing deep concern over the prolonged Rohingya crisis in Bangladesh and calling for renewed international and domestic efforts to resolve it.
"Today, on World Refugee Day, we stand in solidarity with millions of forcibly displaced people around the globe. For Bangladesh, this is not just a global issue, it's our lived reality," he said in a post on Facebook today (20 June), referencing the more than 1.4 million Rohingya refugees currently residing in camps in Cox's Bazar.
He praised Bangladesh's continued humanitarian commitment but warned that the burden has become dangerously unsustainable. "...this crisis remains one of the world's gravest, and the burden is growing to levels that are dangerously unsustainable."
Tarique urged the interim government to intensify diplomatic efforts and put sustained pressure on Myanmar for the safe, dignified, and voluntary repatriation of the Rohingyas. "The international community must ensure this is acted upon by all parties, as the crisis is far from over."
Calling for a global recommitment to peace and justice, he concluded: "Let us renew our commitment towards implementing and adhering to peaceful and just systems that ensure that no refugee is left behind when returning home."
World Refugee Day, observed annually on 20 June, aims to raise awareness of the plight of refugees and promote efforts to ensure their safety, dignity, and rights.
